Introduction to Life Aid

At Life Aid Foundation, we endeavor to follow the guidelines found in Matthew 25:35 & 36 & 40 Where Jesus said, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.…The King will reply, ‘ I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’”

How Life Aid Foundation Got Started and Why

Life Aid Foundation was founded in September, 2000, after seeing for ourselves the massive need in the world, especially among those in third world countries. We began our initial efforts of providing simple aid to young men and women who had the desire and fortitude to make a positive difference in the lives around them, but did not have the needed resources to meet the desperate needs they were encountering, both in their own lives and those they were ministering to. We began studying more about various countries where we have close friends and found that without a quality education, the people in these “developing” countries have very little hope of doing more than existing on the street from garbage pile to garbage pile, never able to make anything worthwhile of themselves and becoming a detriment to the society and country in which they live. Although we can’t change the whole world by ourselves, we do have the power and resources to make a difference in one or more people at a time until we’ve made a big difference over time.

With this mind-set, Life Aid Foundation started helping a young man named Richard Sempala, in Uganda , who was orphaned as a young child due to the war, extreme poverty, and disease stemming from that devastating time period in his country. We helped Richard start his own small milk business, which provided a means of food, clothing and shelter for him as well as helping a few others by sharing his food with them. In 2004, when the government shut down his milk business after instituting new laws stating that one could no longer own a milk business unless one was “tribal” or “a government official”. In other words he was a Christian operating in a predominately Muslim culture. We were able to help him acquire training in Computer Technology; with that knowledge, he in turn was able to train others to become computer literate–which is a necessity in today’s high tech society for most job openings. Richard is now the CEO, chief minister, teacher, and lecturer of Africa Life Youth Foundation–ministering to the youth of Uganda and East Africa. See his website at: http://africalyf.com.

From that small beginning several years ago, LAF/FHM has been able to branch out into 35 + countries, helping some get the education they need in order to find gainful employment, helping others open small profitable businesses allowing them to support themselves and others in need; providing food, funds for housing, college education, vocational training, and others we’ve sent much needed clothing. We praise God for letting us see the need and allowing us to do something about it.

In 2007, we made the decision to establish another Christian non-profit organization know as Freedom’s Hope Ministry, Inc. This was done in order to have local control of funds and expedite the transfer and disbursement of funds overseas. This was originally done by Vision Ministry, Inc. of Fredericksburg, VA, which served LAF as a 501 (C) 3 umbrella. Freedom’s Hope Ministry, Inc. is now that umbrella organization and more. Freedoms Hope Ministry Inc. is a multi-faceted international Christian organization devoted to worldwide evangelism, humanitarian aid, discipleship training, bible and academic education, scholarships and financial aid, and much more. Having a home missions and foreign missions departments encompassing all of the above, Live Aid Foundation has become the foreign missions department.

Isaiah 58:6-9

“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen; to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.”
