Devastating Earthquake Strikes Nepal

FHM Prayer Requests, Urgent Needs

The people of Nepal desperately need our prayers and help. Please pray for the survivors of this horrible tragedy. Many lost loved ones and all they own due to this disastrous 7.8 earthquake. These people are totally devastated. Please also contribute to the needs–as they are many. 100% of all donations goes to the very need. No other costs involved are subtracted. We need funds for food, clothing, and Bibles. Let’s make an impact for Christ!

We just received this from our Overseer David in Kathmandu:

“We are fine but in a difficult situation. Today is the second night out of home. it is raining. No shopping. No groceries. Our children are traumatized. Aftershocks are terrible.  Our bed room is cracked so not able to get in unless aftershock is settled.
it is 4;30 am. I am awake. Felt a strong aftershock…..more again”.

This came in today from Brother Arjun (Arjun is head of the children’s home our ministry supports) in Kathmandu:

“Warm Greetings to you from Nepal in the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Nepal is going through massive destruction because of earthquake, many people lost their lives, and many people are force to live on the street for the security as we also live on the street to protect from the possible after shock. This was recommendation by the government. Our children seems frightened and the surrounding scene is very scary, people are very frightened and losing their hope. Many buildings have collapsed, the situation is devastating. Nepal is badly devastated by the 7.8rs earthquake yesterday and has measured more than 60 smaller tremors till the midnight and just few minutes ago there was 6.5 magnitude. At the moment there are more than 2,000 casualties and many more people are missing. I afraid this toll may exceed even more! We need more prayers for this country and emergency response!

The wall of our home is also crack and damaged some of the windows, which make frighten our children. We don’t have electricity power since yesterday and I don’t know how long our backup power support us, every internet or telephone connection were disturbed yesterday but now it’s working but not properly!

Please keep praying for the safety of the people, to have the proper rescue operation, to be able to meet the urgent need of the people.

People are keep asking for the needed food, medicine and waiting for the immediate rescue. Expecting your joint prayers for the people of Nepal.

Thanking you for standing with us”.

In His Service,

June 6th update from Brother Dhan:

Dear Brother & Sister,

We have helped 12 families (with 30 kilogram rice, 1 kilogram sugar, 1 kilogram lintel, 1 liter cooking oil for each family). They were displaced because of the earthquake hit. They do not have houses here. They told us that the relief packages were distributed to the only people who own houses. Therefore, those who rent the houses were deprived of any help. We selected the very needy families who do not have food. Many of them lost jobs. They have no ways to earn money at present. This package will help them at least for 15-20 days.

Right after the first hit, we were able to serve 40 people who were on the ground. We share with them whatever we had. Later, we could help them with more bags of rice and lintel. We gave them plastic tent and foam mats so that they could stay on the ground for several days until they get new tarps.

Besides these, we helped individually more than 30 people around us.

Everywhere the need is huge so we could not do alone everything so we partnered with some groups to reach the reliefs in two most effected areas.

This was a great of opportunity to show the love of God to the people. Many non-believers are positive toward our works. Please, pray that they may open their hearts to the Lord.

We could not give the Bibles directly to the people at this time because the government’s direction was not to influence the people from religious faith. However, we prayed for the people. We shared about Jesus. We distributed gospel tracts. We are praying for these people and hopefully we can do a follow up in time.

Thank you for your generous giving. It helped us to love the needy and hopeless people with the love of God through this relief package.

In His Grace
David

July 29th update from Brother David:

Regarding earthquake relief:

We are getting feedback from the various places that many people changed their negative attitudes towards Christianity. The relief became a means of demonstrating the love of God to the people by action. I followed up some places where we did relief distribution and found that some of the non believers are started coming to church. We helped the people irrespective of caste and religion. That was an example among the people. Please, keep praying for these people so that they can confess the Lord publicly. I will follow up the results again soon.

Current situation:

Rainy season already started in Nepal. It is hard to go to mountain areas. But we can go to some of the places where motor-able roads are available. Some people need tin sheet for roofs to protect from rains. The village people need to preserve their maizes or corns as well. They have no place to store it. It is the season of harvesting corns and planting rice paddy. Their rice paddy will be harvested after four months. At least $200 is needed for the roof of one family. This is just for short term projects.

For the long term, the government of Nepal is going to bring some strategies which we should follow accordingly. An earthquake resistant house plan is being discussed for the long term plan.

Some of the villages need to build toilet for the hygienic purpose. Many church buildings are to be rebuilt again, even schools too.

Many people have been displaced to some areas where they have basic needs.

Personal and Ministry;

We are praying to move out of this house. Many houses are not safe. If we get good one, we will have to rent it. The rent is higher this time due to earthquake effect. For the time being we are planning to lease a plot of land for the Church. We should build a temporary house there. It costs around $7000.

Thank you very much for advocating our ministries with your partners there.

Note: My wife and I are busy running here and there these days. The weather is rainy and dusty. We get tired whole day. So we could not write you frequently. Now we will try to be on time. If the Lord provides a vehicle for us, it would be a great blessing to the multipurpose ministries.
More later,

David
